About Me

Hi, I'm Alesia Krotko. I would like to invite you to my pencil world. Since 2011, I have been creating pencil portraits for clients from all over the world. This is my main hobby and passion I have devoted most of my life for. Each photo that I receive from a client as an order contains a story, a moment that is valuable for the person for whom the drawing is intended. The portrait drawn from such a photo is twice as sentimental and touching. That is why it evokes the most vivid emotions. An important moment in life + handmade work with love = unforgettable emotions and a memory for life. I owe my clients for helping me grow. Thanks to them, about 800 portraits have already been created and sent to 28 countries around the world. Thanks to my clients, I do what I love every day. When drawing with a pencil from a photo, I am deeply immersed in the process, depicting the characters and their souls on the paper showing all the best that human souls may have. Hyper-realistic portraits are works that remind people of their true beauty and who they really are.

Each photo has its own story, a moment in life that is dear to a person. That is why the portrait drawn from such a photo is twice as sentimental and touching and evokes the most vivid emotions.

Igal received a portrait I drew from a friend. You can see his reaction in this video. He didn’t realize right away that it was a drawing, so there are two reactions - make sure to watch until the end.

Guides

  • Choosing the right photo for your portrait

I can’t overemphasise how important your choice of photo is – the better the input, the better the portrait I can produce, and the more delighted you’ll be. My aim is to produce something that you will be absolutely delighted with for many years to come, and time spent working together to get the input right will be time well spent. The best pencil portraits are those that capture a moment in time, and faithfully reflect a person or animal’s character. I tend to work from one of your favourite photographs so the first thing to check is that it’s a really good representation of the subject’s personality and mannerisms as well as physical appearance. Remember, you may know the subject intimately, but it can be hard for me to capture the personality of someone I haven’t met. I can only work with what I see in the photo so please feel free to send supplementary images.
    Image Quality

The resolution of the image is also vitally important – this is the amount of detail it contains, and the more I can see, the better quality your portrait will be. As a quick guide, check the image file size – the bigger (more Mb) the better – 3Mb upwards is recommended. Also check the following:
    – Is it in focus?
    – Is it well lit? Ideally shoot in natural daylight but not direct sunlight which will cause unwanted highlights and shadows. Slightly overcast days will produce an even light.
    – Is there good contrast and a good range of shades between the light and dark areas?

Using a ‘proper’ camera , rather than a mobile phone, usually gives better results because the overall resolution of the camera is usually better, and higher resolution = more detail to work with.If you have to use a mobile phone, remember that you will need plenty of light so shoot outdoors if you can, but ideally not in direct sunlight. Also, don’t be tempted to ‘zoom in’ – phone cameras achieve this by simply cropping out unwanted elements of the picture, leaving the remainder at a low resolution – get closer if you can.

  • Choosing the right size for your portrait

Sometimes the choice of paper size will be dictated by your frame, if you have already chosen one, the space available on your wall, or to fit in with existing pictures or decor. Of course, I can draw pretty much any size, but many people find it easier if I narrow it down to a few choices for them. The size of the portrait depends on your preferences. The larger the size, the more spectacular the painting looks in the interior.

  • How to frame your pencil portrait?

I’m often asked about framing my work, but I generally prefer to leave that to the experts, because: glass doesn’t travel well, even with the most substantial packaging, and breakages would likely cause irreparable damage to the portrait inside; a professional framer will give you more choice and plenty of good advice; and it would actually work out cheaper for you to manage this process yourself. Use a professional framer rather than an off-the shelf frame – it will be more expensive, but will give a much more pleasing result. As well as increased choice, they will use good quality materials. They will also be able to guide you through the choice of styles and recommend the most suitable for the style of portrait and your tastes/decor.
